It is emotionally painful for most people to have, thrust upon them, an accurate interpretation of their "hidden" purpose, as it resides deeply in their private logic. The feedback consultant will encounter many negative responses if the feedback session is conducted carelessly, especially with those who are ill prepared to receive the feedback. Feedback must always be presented in a sensitive manner and with modesty, as it is only one source of information and is not a substitute for a comprehensive evaluation. Feedback should not be shared with others, especially with someone in a position to use the information in negative ways against the participant. Caution must also be exercised when a "group" of respondents might be exposed to punitive consequences directed toward the entire group from a leader seeking retaliation for a critical and negative assessment. Oftentimes, those in most need of this kind of feedback are the least likely to welcome it. Feedback must always be used to the participant's advantage, for growth and not as a consequence for engaging in purposes he or she thought were the correct ones. Even if we successfully convince a participant that his or her goal direction in work life have been mistaken, responses to such knowledge will be varied, from highly postive to highly negative. Deeply held convictions are, by definition, "deeply held" and it is actually a rare conclusion drawn by the participant that a life purpose mistake needs to be corrected. More often, excuses and justifications are created to preserve the status quo and "safe-guard" the mistaken tendency. Whatever the excuses created, all point to the deeply held wish to escape responsibility for the consequences of behavior that are so often dysfunctional and destructive at work.
Given these considerations, feedback sessions related to the results of a GEMA™-Lead360 need to be conducted using the highest professional and ethical standards, and with great sensitivity and care for the participant.
